Winnipeg Press wrote "unlike other artists, Kinew has the charisma (and the business sense) to pull it off In 2009, he could finally smash the glass ceiling between Canada's most dynamic aboriginal voices and a deserved spotlight." Buffy Sainte Marie

Buffy Sainte Marie
Buffy Sainte Marie was born on a reservation in Qu'Appelle Valley, Saskatchewan, she was adopted and raised in Maine and Massachusetts. As a collage student in the early 1960's, she became known as a singer, song writer of protest and love. In 1962, Buffy Sainte Marie toured North America's collages, reservations and concert halls. She caught the attenion of her audience and many record companies, she entertained and at the same time educated them on Native American reality in the first person.
By age 24, Buffy toured all over Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia, she recieved many honors, medals and awards which continue today. Elvis, Barbra and Cher all recorded her song "Until It's Time For You To Go" and her song "Universal Soldier" became the anthem for the peace movement. The Billboard's dubed her as "Best New Artist". In 1976 Buffy quit recording as her son was born, then in 1993 she re-entered the music scene. The next day following her comeback concert newspaper headlines described Buffy's concert as "superb, powerful, and moving, drawing a roaring and deserved standing ovation". That same year, France named her as  "Best International Artist of 1993" and the United Nations chose her to proclaim the International Year of Indigenous People.

Buffy along side atists like Eartha Kitt, Taj Mahal and other outspoken performers were blacklisted fron the mainstream airways during the Lyndon Johnson years. In the 1980s, [President] Lyndon Johnson had been writing letters on White House stationary praising radio stations not to air Buffy's and other peoples music that were standing up for there cultures and beliefs. But in Native counrty and overseas, her fame only grew, she continued to appear at countless grassroots concerts, AIM events and other activist benefits.

Some of Buffy Sinte Marie's accievements are:
  • 17 albums
  • Three television specials
  • Appeared on Sesame Street for five years
  • Appeared in movies
  • Helped found Canada's "Music of Aboriginal Canada" June Category
  • Earned a Ph.d
  • Taught Digital Music as a proffesor at several collages
  • won an Academy Award Oscar for the song "Up Where We Belong"
Buffy Sainte-Marie's work is a reflection of her own life - extremely varied and unique - and her special skill is in joining seemingly unrelated ideas: A pacifist and a general. Indians and computers. Electronic art and Native realities.
